Word of the day:Acknowledgement

A few days ago at work(I work at a homeless shelter), volunteers came to show a movie for Friday Devotion. The movie of choice was The Greatest Showman. This movie is a musical and although I do not like musicals, this movie’s music plays in my car on my way to work. There is one song in particular really hit me. This song is about acknowledging those scars, owning that uniqueness, being unapologetic about who you are. This song is powerful!

Just like anyone else, I have insecurities and allow societies views of who I should be, mold me. Over time I realize I am not living my life how I want. I am not being the freedom, I seek and desire! And that is frustrating. I acknowledge those things that make me different that to some may not be appealing, at the end of the day, this is me! Although this a short message, I ask you to look at yourself and acknowledge those things that make you you. Whatever that may be.

I give thanks to those who inspires my self-love and be unapologetic about who I am!

Here are some of the lyrics of “This is Me” by Keala Settle from movie “The Greatest Showman”

I am not a stranger to the dark
Hide away, they say
‘Cause we don’t want your broken parts
I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Run away, they say
No one’ll love you as you are
But I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ‘cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
